Editorial & Research Methodology

This page explains how WattOutpost researches, compares, updates, and monetizes editorial content.

1. Topic and market selection

We use keyword research, market signals, product discovery, and reader-use-case structure to decide which topics deserve dedicated coverage. Product Radar may be used to surface market-wide evidence, product movement, current product identities, and stored keyword evidence.

2. Product identity comes first

A product family name is not enough. Where a recommendation or affiliate link depends on a specific product, we verify the exact model, generation, and ASIN where applicable. Parent listings, child variations, station-only products, solar-generator bundles, accessories, and revisions are treated as different identities when the distinction matters.

3. Manufacturer facts

Specifications such as battery capacity, rated output, charging behavior, solar input, UPS or EPS functionality, dimensions, and included bundle components should be checked against current manufacturer information before publication when those facts are material to the article.

4. Market and product evidence

Market evidence can include current Product Radar signals, product rank or movement, stored product observations, keyword evidence, and other time-sensitive indicators. These signals help explain what is changing in the market; they do not automatically determine a recommendation.

5. Editorial judgment

We consider the reader’s use case, required output, usable capacity, portability, charging options, product identity, manufacturer evidence, and relevant current market evidence. A higher sales signal or search volume does not by itself make a product the best choice for every reader.

6. Hands-on testing

WattOutpost does not present data analysis, manufacturer specifications, or third-party evidence as personal hands-on testing. If we physically test a product in the future, the article will state what was tested, how it was tested, and the limits of that testing.

7. Prices, availability, and affiliate links

WattOutpost currently uses a manual Amazon Associates workflow rather than a live commerce API. We therefore do not publish static Amazon prices or unsupported stock claims as if they were live. Active affiliate links are checked against the intended exact product identity and use clear link-level disclosure such as (paid link); unresolved destinations remain non-clickable.

8. Images

Product imagery should be site-owned, manufacturer-licensed, otherwise properly licensed, or supplied through an approved provider under its applicable terms. We do not manually copy Amazon listing images for publication.

9. Updates and corrections

Before publication, time-sensitive evidence, manufacturer facts, product identity, affiliate destinations, internal links, and schema are rechecked. After publication, materially outdated claims or identity conflicts should be corrected when identified. Readers can submit correction requests through the Contact page.

10. Commercial relationships

Affiliate revenue helps support the site, but the editorial process requires disclosure, exact-product identity, and evidence review. An affiliate relationship does not guarantee inclusion or a favorable conclusion.

11. Use of automated tools

Software and AI-assisted tools may be used to organize research, compare structured evidence, identify inconsistencies, and assist drafting. They do not remove the requirement for editorial review, source verification, and correction of unsupported claims before publication.
